Submitting your Abstract
-
Your abstract must be submitted as a word document and uploaded at the end of the online abstract submission process.
-
When you have read the instructions below thoroughly and saved your abstract in the correct format, you are ready to upload your abstract onto the submission site - click the “submit abstract” button on the ASM website.
-
Once you have submitted your abstract, you will receive an email containing your personal access key. This access key can be used to enter the 'Speaker Zone'. As part of the upload procedure, your abstract will be converted to an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. You will be taken, step by step through the submission process and the very last step is to upload your abstract.
-
It is the responsibility of the submitting author to view and proof the PDF file to ensure your abstract has been uploaded successfully. In addition you may submit an additional abstract; replace your abstract with a revised copy; or when available, register for the Conference.
-
Awards – All abstracts will be ranked and considered for the Best Science Awards (ie the Kidney Health Australia Clinical Science Award and the AMGEN Best Basic Science Award). In addition, abstracts nominated for the Young Investigator Awards will be reviewed a second time. Note that a presenting author can only submit one abstract to the Young Investigator award category. Presenters must be society members to present in award sessions. Trials co-ordinated by the pharmaceutical industry are not eligible for any award. Investigator driven trials that are funded by educational or unrestricted grants from pharmaceutical companies are eligible.
-
You must declare any relevant conflict or duality of interest in regard to your abstract submission.
-
Your submission of your abstract means that all authors have seen and approve it: you will need to declare this during the submission process.
Formatting your Abstract
-
Abstracts should be formatted as follows:
-
Paper Title - (CAPITAL CASE, Arial, font size 12 Bold)
-
Please do not list authors and affiliations in your abstract, as a blind review process will take place. Instead, author names and affiliations are entered as part of the online submission process.
-
Descriptive text - (Sentence Case, Arial font size 10). * Note that characters and symbols must be inserted into the document using the INSERT SYMBOL function, not by changing the font, and please do not use document styles.
-
The abstract, with subheadings, should be in the following form: Aim, Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions.
-
You MUST include results or data in your abstract. Abstracts that describe plans for a study or that state “results will be presented” are unlikely to be accepted
-
Do NOT include references
-
Overall word count, excluding the scientific title, authors and affiliations must not exceed 275 words. Abstracts that exceed this limit risk not being considered for award categories or oral presentation, and may be returned for rewriting.
-
Abbreviations – full text on first mention followed by the abbreviation of first parenthesis. Please do not submit abstracts where the material has been published in full prior to the abstract deadline.
-
Figures and tables are NOT acceptable.
